Appeals of Altidore-Kljestan halftime red cards rejected

The Independent Panel rejected appeals by Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls of the red cards issued to TFC forward Jozy Altidore and Red Bulls midfielder Sacha Kljestan at halftime of the Eastern Conference playoff match on Nov. 5.

Both players issued red cards for violent conduct after an incident that took place outside the TFC locker room as the two teams were heading for their halftime breaks.

Altidore will serve his one-game suspension in the first leg of the Eastern Conference final on Tuesday at Columbus. Kljestan will serve his one-game suspension in his first match of the 2018 MLS regular season.

The Independent Panel consists of one representative from the United States Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association, and one representative from the Professional Referee Organization.
