NCAA Division I Men's Tournament: Six seeds fall at home in second round

Colgate, which won its first ever NCAA Division I Men's Tournament game in seven appearances dating back to 1959 on Thursday, rallied from two games to beat No. 13 seed Michigan, 3-2 in the second round on Sunday night.

The Wolverines, one of six seeds who lost, led 2-0 after nine minutes, but the Raiders tied the score in the first half on goals by juniors Ryan Bellavance and Uyi Omorogbe and won the game on Aram Ouligian's goal in the 88th minute.

"We knew Michigan was going to bring a lot of energy at the start and I thought if we could weather that then we would be fine," said Colgate coach Erik Ronning. "Giving up two goals in the first 10 minutes didn't exactly go according to script, but our team shows such resiliency and never gets fazed. They responded very well and we started finding ourselves back in the game."

Colgate had also rallied from two goals down to beat No. 1 seed Loyola (Md.), 3-2, in the Patriot League semifinals.

Other seeds to fall:

-- No. 8 Clemson (3-1 to Coastal Carolina despite playing the last 28 minutes with a man advantage).
-- No. 11 Virginia (1-0 to Fordham on Eric Ohlendorf's header in the 83rd minute).
-- No. 12 Notre Dame (1-0 to Wisconsin on Mike Catalano's golden goal off an assist from Chris Mueller, his 18th of the season).
-- No. 14 Georgetown (2-1 to SMU on an own goal in the 110th minute).
