Georgia's Bethune shines for U.S. U-17 girls in Mexico

Croix Bethune of Georgia's Concord Fire scored twice and assisted in the U.S. U-17 girls' 4-1 win over Mexico in Mexico City. Two days earlier, Maya Doms  of Davis (Calif.) Legacy scored for the USA in a 1-1 tie with Mexico.

"Obviously, we are very happy with the 4-0 result,” said U.S. U-17 coach Mark Carr. “We made several changes from the first game and our players responded with a very disciplined performance. Coming out of this experience in Mexico, we know that we have a lot of work ahead of us as we continue to improve leading into World Cup qualifying next year."

Carr's roster was comprised of three players born in 2002 and 19 in 2001. Players born in 2001 or later are eligible for the 2018 U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Bethune, who has committed to USC, scored two second-half goals within six minutes and set up the USA's final goal, by Jordan Canniff (Washington Spirit-Baltimore Armour). So Cal Blue's Isabella D'Aquila opened the scoring in the eighth minute.
