The next U.S. U-17 men’s national team cycle, the first since the closing of the Bradenton Residency Program that had launched in 1999, begins with a 24-player preliminary squad named by Coach
to play England, the Netherlands and Brazil at the 2017 Men's Nike International Friendlies Nov. 29-Dec. 3 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
The team ultimately
aims to qualify for the 2019 U-17 World Cup, for which players born in 2002 or later are eligible.
“To begin the new U-17 cycle with the Nike International Friendlies competing against
traditional world powers is a big challenge,” Hackworth said. “However, our staff has evaluated these young men, most recently at the Concacaf U-15 Championship, and we are all looking
forward to the chance to work with this talented group.”
Hackworth will cut the roster down to 20 players for the Nike Friendlies game after a Nov. 24-Nov. 28 pre-tournament training
Giovanni Reyna, who captained and starred on the 2016/17 U.S. U-15 national team which most of the roster is comprised of, indicated on Twitter that he is injured.
