USA will face France in Bleus' World Cup sendoff game

The French federation announced on Thursday that the French national team will play the USA on June 9 in the last of three games before it leaves for the World Cup in Russia.

In a statement, U.S. Soccer confirmed the game: "While the contract has not been signed, we are finalizing plans to play France on June 9 in Lyon. An official announcement is expected soon."

France will also play an opponent to be determined on May 28 at the Stade de France outside Paris and Italy on June 1 in Nice in the leadup to the World Cup.

The only other opponent the USA has lined up so far 2018 is against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Jan. 28 in Carson, Calif.

It is expected to play during the March FIFA window (March 19-27) and in the buildup to the World Cup.

MLS has not released plans for the 2018 schedule, including whether or how long it will break for the World Cup.
