TV: MLS Cup 2017 draws audience of 1.3 million viewers on TSN

Toronto FC’s first MLS championship was watched by an average audience of 1.3 million Canadians on TSN, down from the record 1.43 million it reported watched the 2016 final, also against the Seattle Sounders.

The audience peaked with 2 million viewers at the moment Spaniard Victor Vazquez sealed 2-0 win with the second goal in stoppage time.

According to overnight data from Numeris, 3.4 million Canadians watched some or all of Saturday’s game, which was the most-watched program of the day in the Toronto market and helped make TSN the most-watched network of the day in Canada.

TSN reported that there was an increase of 25 percent overall for viewership for MLS this season in Canada compared to last season.  Also, there was an increase in these demos:

-- Adults 18-34 (up 40 percent);
-- Adults 25-54 (up 28 percent).
