MLS will open 2018 season March 3-4 with 11 games

Major League Soccer announced the home openers for all clubs for the 2018 season, which will begin March 3.

The 2018 season will begin with 11 games March 3-4. With the addition of Los Angeles FC, the league will have 23 teams, requiring that at least one team have a bye each weekend. The New York Red Bulls, one of five MLS teams coming off Concacaf Champions League midweek action, will be idle March 3-4.

The home opener for D.C. United will be at a site to be determined while its new Audi Field is being completed. United will play two home games at a different site before moving into its new stadium.

Two MLS teams will have delayed home openers. With renovations underway to expand Providence Park, the Portland Timbers' home opener will be on April 14. Expansion LAFC will face Seattle in the opening of Banc of California Stadium on April 29.
