2017: Alex Morgan is runaway leader among U.S. women with 28 goals

Alex Morgan finished as the top scorer among U.S. women playing for first division teams in 2017, scoring 28 goals for the the U.S. women's national team, Orlando City and French club Lyon.

Morgan, the 2017 Concacaf Women's Player of the Year, led the USA with seven goals in 2017, and her nine goals for the Orlando Pride were tied for the most club goals in her six pro seasons. Seven of her goals for Lyon came in two French Cup games.

A majority of the top 10 scorers spent time at clubs abroad, including Ella Masar, who finished second with 17 goals for Swedish club Rosengard. Megan Rapinoe, which finished third, was the top American scorer in the NWSL with 12 goals.
