Morgan Brian moves to French juggernaut Lyon

Morgan Brian became the latest U.S. international to move to Europe when she signed a deal with reigning French and European champion Lyon through the 2019-2020 season.

Brian, who has played 69 times for the USA and started on its 2015 Women's World Cup championship team, and French star Amandine Henry were Lyon's two January signings from the NWSL.

Brian signed with the Houston Dash out of the University of Virginia in 2015 and was traded to the Chicago Red Stars in the middle of the 2017 season when it became clear she would be leaving the NWSL. She departs with one goal in 35 appearances.

Alex Morgan played the first half of the 2017 season at Lyon, which won the triple -- French league and cup championships and UEFA Women's Champions League title. Carli Lloyd played for the first part of 2017 at Manchester City before returning to the Dash.

Like Brian, Crystal Dunn made a permanent transfer when she moved to Chelsea in 2017.

Henry, who had spent the last two seasons at Portland, returns to Lyon, where she won three UEFA Champions League titles along with nine French league and five French Cup championships.

Lyon entered the winter break with 12 wins in 12 games in the French women's league. Including its four wins in the Champions League, Lyon has outscored its opponents, 91-2.
