2. MLS: Sigi won't quit

Columbus coach Sigi Schmid, who said after Wednesday's loss to Real Salt Lake that perhaps he should resign, will stay in charge of the Crew, which is 4-11-8 and on a 13-game winless streak in Schmid's first year at its helm.

"It was my frustration with how things went," Schmid told the Columbus Dispatch regarding his postgame statement about quitting. "It was hard for me to get up this morning and go anywhere. I didn't want to show my face anywhere. Right now, I'm embarrassed because that's not the team I want to put out there. That's not the team I want to call the Columbus Crew."

General manager Mark McCullers said, "Sigi is a passionate person and clearly he made [those comments] in an emotional moment. If all of our players were as emotional and engaging as Sigi Schmid, we probably wouldn't be in a 13-game winless streak right now."

Columbus hosts the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, 7:30 pm ET, live on Fox Soccer Channel & Direct Kick.
