L.A. trio gets callup for Mexico's game in San Antonio

LA Galaxy midfielders Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos and LAFC forward Carlos Vela were all called into the Mexican national team for its friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Jan. 31 at San Antonio's Alamodome.

The game will be the first of the year for El Tri, which is preparing for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Mexico 2018 WCQ:
10/3 Carlos Vela
6/0 Jonathan Dos Santos
5/0 Giovani Dos Santos

None of the three players is considered an automatic choice to be picked by Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio for Mexico's World Cup team, but all are hopeful of going to Russia. It would be the third World Cup for Giovani Dos Santos and the first for his brother and Vela.

Vela hopes the MLS calendar will get them ready for the World Cup.

"When I was in Europe maybe you are tired for all year -- playing, training, training, training," he told ESPN FC at MLS Media Day in Los Angeles. "We [MLS players] are fresh. We can be at the World Cup in my best moment of the season. I think like that. I hope Osorio thinks like me."

Note: The rest of the team has not yet been named. U.S. U-20 Jonathan Gonzalez will only be in the team if FIFA approves his switch of association.
