NWSL Dispersal Draft: Spirit adds to stockpile of young stars with Lavelle pick

Having cut a deal with for the top pick, the Washington Spirit selected U.S. national team midfielder Rose Lavelle with the No. 1 pick in the dispersal draft of Boston Breakers players and players whose NWSL rights the defunct team held.

The move gives the Spirit four young U.S. national team players -- Mallory Pugh, Andi Sullivan, Taylor Smith and Lavelle -- all acquired in the last eight months.

Of the 31 players available, 27 were taken in Tuesday's draft.
