Datebook: U.S. women to face Mexico for first time in more than two years

On April 8, BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston will host the USA-Mexico women's friendly, the first clash between the neighbor nations since February of 2016.

Feb. 2016: USA 1 Mexico 0
May 2015: USA 5 Mexico 1
Oct. 2014: USA 3 Mexico 0
Sept. 2014: USA 4 Mexico 0
Sept. 2014: USA 8 Mexico 0

"It will be good to get back together after the start of the new NWSL season and we will look forward to refocusing on our team goals as we continue to move towards World Cup qualifying," said U.S. coach Jill Ellis. "Mexico has made great strides at the senior and youth levels, and that benefits our region and our team as it gives us the opportunity to play more quality matches against Concacaf opponents."

Both the USA and Mexico are preparing for the Concacaf tournament next fall that will determine the region's qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup in France.

The USA has won 32 of its 34 games against Mexico dating back to 1991. Mexico's only win (2-1) came in a 2011 Women's World Cup in Cancun, Mexico. They tied 1-1 in a 2007 friendly in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Houston game, televised by FOX, comes following the USA's SheBelieves Cup games against Germany in Columbus, Ohio (March 1), France in Harrison, New Jersey (March 4) and England in Orlando, Florida (March 7).

The game marks the first between the two nations since Mexico launched the Liga MX Femenil last year.

At the U-20 level, Mexico beat the USA in a penalty kick tiebreaker following a 1-1 tie in the Concacaf U-20 Championship final on Jan. 29.

US Soccer shouldn't need anyone to graph those results to see the trend. Alarm bells should have been ringing in Carson for the past 3 years. But apparently everything is good, no cause for alarm.
