U.S. U-17 women find plenty of Sunshine in Mar del Plata

The U.S. under-17 women’s national team got four goals from Sunshine Fontes as it opened the Copa Provincia de Buenos Aires with a 9-0 victory against host Argentina.

The Hawaiian Fontes also scored four times against Venezuela on Jan. 15 in Florida.

Petyon Linnehan scored twice while Croix Bethune, Isabella D’Aquila and Kate Wiesneradded goals in the tournament opener.



In its second game, the USA beat Uruguay, 4-1. D'Aquila scored twice while Samantha Meza and Maya Doms also scored goals. All five goals were scored in the first half.

The USA will close out the tournament against Chile on Saturday.

The trip to South America comes two months before the Concacaf U-17 tournament in Nicaragua. It will serve as qualifying for the U-17 Women's World Cup later this year Uruguay. Conmebol's U-17 championship will be held in March.
