USA wins U-17 women's tournament in Mar del Plata

The U.S. under-17 women's national team won the Copa Provincia de Buenos Aires in Mar del Plata, Argentina, with a 1-0 win over Chile for its third win in three games against South American opposition.

World Class FC midfielder Samantha Kroeger, who was called up from the U.S. U-16s for the trip to Argentina, had the lone goal in the 21st minute. The USA also beat host Argentina, 9-0, and Uruguay, 4-1.

The tournament, played at the Estadio Mundialista Jose Maria Minella, a 1978 World Cup venue, served as preparation for the Concacaf Under-17 Women’s Championship April 19-29 in Nicaragua, where it will face Costa Rica, Bermuda and Canada in group play. The tournament that will qualify three teams to the 2018 Under-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay.
