Eight NWSL players are in Australia's squad for the Algarve Cup in Portugal that will serve as a tune-up for the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, Asian qualifying tournament for the 2019 Women's
World Cup.
Two more NWSL players would have been called in but they were injured in the W-League playoffs.
Kyah Simon, whom the Houston Dash just signed, suffered a
hamstring injury playing for champion Melbourne City FC in Sunday’s Grand Final. She is expected to be available for training camp in Perth before the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
Caitlin Foord, whose rights were acquired by the NWSL champion Portland Thorns in the offseason, suffered a serious foot injury playing for runner-up Sydney FC in the semifinals and is
doubtful for the Matildas' Asian Cup campaign.
Jordan will host the AFC Women’s Asian Cup April 7-22.
