NWSL Moves: Chelsea confirms Crystal Dunn's switch to Courage

Chelsea Ladies confirmed the transfer of American star Crystal Dunn to the North Carolina Courage just 12 months after her move to England.

She won the 2017 WSL Spring Series with Chelsea and helped it reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time. She was mostly used as a wing back by Chelsea's Emma Hayes.

A deal between Washington and the Courage resulted in Dunn's NWSL rights going to North Carolina. It had to give up Ashley Hatch and Taylor Smith, two of the most promising young players in the NWSL.

Dunn, who is with the U.S. women's national team preparing for the 2018 SheBelieves Cup, issued the following statement:

"It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to leave Chelsea. However, the opportunity to return to the USA felt like the right decision for both personal and footballing reasons at this stage of my career.

"I would like to thank everyone at Chelsea for understanding and will be cheering on the team for the remainder of the season and beyond.

"I want to thank Emma and the staff for all they have done for me, my team-mates who are not only top players but good friends and of course the fans for cheering me on during my year in London.

"It has been a special time and I will always have a place in my heart for Chelsea FC."
