Atlanta United's Ezequiel Barco sidelined 4-6 weeks

Atlanta United fans will have to wait a while to see how good is 18-year-old Argentine Ezequiel Barco, the most expensive signing in MLS history.

The MLS club announced Barco will be out 4-6 weeks after straining his right quad during training on Tuesday. He started the first two games at the Carolina Challenge Cup.

Barco joined Atlanta United after leading Independiente to the 2017 Copa Sudamericana title.

Barco's penalty kick gave Independiente a 1-1 tie against Brazil's Flamengo at Maracana Stadium that clinched the 2017 Copa Sudamericana title, 3-2, on aggregate in the final.

Protracted negotiations ended in a move to MLS for a reported $15 million, plus 30 percent of any future transfer fee before Dec. 2019, or 10 percent if Atlanta United sells him after that.

Atlanta United opens at Houston on Saturday.
