Philadelphia teenager Anthony Fontana has an MLS debut to remember

On the 14 Americans who made their MLS debuts, none will remember it more than the 18-year-old Union midfielder.

Anthony Fontana had a memorable for the Philadelphia Union, scoring the winning goal in the 2-0 win over New England.

Fontana, 18, was given the starting job as the Union's attacking midfielder and was in the right place to put away the Union's first goal from the six-yard spot in front of the Revs' goal.

"I came out here ready to play and try to help the team in any way I could," he said. "Thankfully, I was able to do that with the goal."

Fontana is only the second MLS player who hailed from Delaware, though he spent his high school years at the YSC Academy in Wayne, Pennsylvania. He grew up playing with 19-year-old Auston Trusty, who also made his MLS debut on Saturday.

"It’s always been a dream of mine to play here at this club," said Fontana. "Doing it with someone else that is similar to me is amazing. Like I said, the fact that I was able to actually help the team today feels good."
