USA will begin play in new Concacaf Nations League in September 2019

The USA will begin play in the inaugural Concacaf Nations League in League A during the September 2019 FIFA match window.

The USA and the other five teams from the 2016-17 Hexagonal are automatically qualified for the Nations League and exempt from qualifying, which begins this fall.

They will be joined by the top six teams in qualifying and divided into four groups. Play will take place in September, October and November, 2019. The final championship involving the four group winners to be played in March 2020.


League A.
Entrants. USA. Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and Trinidad & Tobago, plus teams 1-6 in aggregate qualifying standings.
Format.
Four groups of three teams. The winners of each League A group will qualify to the Concacaf Nations League final championship. The teams at the bottom of each group will be relegated to League B for the next edition of the tournament.

League B.
Entrants. Teams 7-22 in aggregate qualifying standings.
Format.
League B will contain four groups of four teams. The winner of each League B group will be promoted to League A, and the bottom team of each League B group will be relegated to League C for the next edition.

League C.
Entrants. Teams 23-34 in aggregate qualifying standings.
Format. 
League C will consist of the remaining teams divided into four groups of three teams. The winner of each League C group will be promoted to League B.
