USL moves into Upstate South Carolina for Division III launch

Greenville, South Carolina, was named the third team in the new USL Division III, which will begin play in 2019.

Erwin Creates, co-founder and former president of national marketing agency Erwin Penland, will lead the ownership group, while Chris Lewis, most recently the president and general manager of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits ice hockey team, was named president.
Unlike Tormenta FC and FC Tucson, which have been playing in the PDL, Greenville will start from scratch.

USL CEO Alec Papadakis: "Greenville is a dynamic city, with a storied soccer history driven by the nationally-recognized programs at Clemson University and Furman University, along with the international influence of global corporations headquartered in the region."
