Three former Cosmos join NPSL team

Cosmos B, the team the New York Cosmos have entered in the NPSL since 2015, signed former U.S. U-17 national team defender Alexis Velela, joining former Cosmos Daniel Szetela and Bledi Bardic to play under head coach Carlos Mendes, the former Cosmos captain.

Cosmos B also signed defender Jonathan Borrajo, who hails from Szetela's hometown of Clifton, New Jersey, and played with the San Antonio Scorpions, Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Miami FC in the NASL, and striker Wojciech Wojcik, who played last season for OKC Energy FC in the USL.

It also signed 35-year-old Long Island native Chris Wingert, who had earlier announced his retirement after 11 years with Real Salt Lake.

In all, 20 former Cosmos have found new teams for 2018. They include Dejan Jakovic (Los Angeles FC) and Jimmy Maurer (FC Dallas), who are starting in MLS.

Cosmos B will open the 2018 NPSL season at Boston City FC on May 7.
