TV: NWSL team gets Royal treatment with 18 games broadcast locally

Eighteen of the Utah Royals' 24 games for their first season in the NWSL will be available on KMYU (broadcast television) and KSL (digital).

Coverage begins with Saturday’s opener at the Orlando Pride on the same broadcast destinations as Real Salt Lake and Real Monarchs have. The other six Utah games will air nationally on Lifetime.

Most NWSL games that don't air on national television are only carried on the free go90 streaming service. In 2017, the first-year North Carolina Courage carried four games on four Capitol Broadcasting stations.

The Royals' play-by-play announcer will be Greg Wrubell, a 28-year veteran of Utah sports who serves as the “Voice of the Cougars” for BYU’s football, men’s basketball and women’s soccer programs.

Carla Haslam, a former BYU women’s player who has spent the past two seasons calling the Real Monarchs for the club’s USL broadcasts, will do the color.
