Bayern: Hargreaves Stays

Bayern Munich today issued a statement forcing Owen Hargreaves to remain with the club, despite talk from both the player and Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson about a possible transfer. "Bayern has today officially told Manchester United that their pursuit of Owen Hargreaves must cease," the German club said in its statement, denying the possibility of any negotiations regarding a transfer. Earlier in the day, Ferguson said he still hoped the club could be persuaded to sell the player, but admitted that negotiations are at "a bit of a deadlock." Hargreaves himself has also publicly declared his desire to join Man Utd, but Bayern refuses to relent. "You can offer me 50 million euros for Owen Hargreaves but we will not let him go," club GM Uli Hoeness told a German news agency yesterday. After a fantastic World Cup (although he was one of the few England players to enjoy one) Hargreaves is finding himself in high-demand. Ferguson said he's had his eye on the player for a number of years, but felt compelled to ramp up his interest after the departure of Roy Keane from Old Trafford last season.
