John Branch found Hakan Sukur, Turkey's all-time leading scorer and one of the stars of the team that finished third at the 2002 World Cup, working in an upscale cafe in Palo Alto, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley. Hakan's political career ended after a falling out with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and he bought a new life for his family in California thanks to an investor’s visa.
