U.S. Abroad Tracker (25 and younger): Green helps rescue Greuther Fuerth, Horvath wins Belgian title

For the second season in a row, Julian Green moved from the Bundesliga to the 2. Bundesliga, Germany's second division.

His move from Bayern Munich in early 2017 ended with VfB Stuttgart shipping him to Greuther Fuerth after it was promoted back to the Bundesliga.

Greuther Fuerth was never in the hunt for promotion. Indeed, it was last at the end of August when Green joined the club. But it managed to stay up in part because of Green, whose perfectly placed goal earned it a 1-1 tie at Heidenheim on the final day of the season.

The 2. Bundesliga relegation battle was one of the closest ever. Eintracht Braunschweig went down after a loss to Holstein Kiel, and Erzgebirge Aue's last-second loss to Darmstadt dropped it to 16th place, sending it into a promotion-relegation playoff. Only eight points separated the bottom nine clubs.

Belgium. Ethan Horvath was back in the Club Brugge as it tied Standard Liege, 1-1, to clinch the Belgian championship playoff series with one game to go.

He went more than six months without playing -- he hardly ever dressed -- before being inserted back into the starting lineup for the last two games. He was brought in the middle of last season to take over as the starter in 2017-18 but lost his starting job after a mistake in a 2-0 loss at Genk in late October.

Brugge was the runaway leader at the end of the regular season, but teams only take half their points into the six-team championship round, where they play 10 games.
