Turner, whose last foray into men's soccer was its much-criticized coverage (with commercial breaks) of the 1990 World Cup in Italy, will reportedly pay more than $60 million a year over the three-year deal for English-language rights. Univision acquired Spanish-language rights.
The Champions League studio shows on TBS, TNT and truTV will originate from Turner Studios in Atlanta.
Abdo, who was introduced at Turner's Upfront presentation on Wednesday, will serve as a studio host for Fox Sports’ coverage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. She previously worked as a broadcaster for Sky Sports News in Germany and the UK and CNN. Born in England, Abdo is also fluent in French, Spanish and German.
“I’m over the moon to be joining Turner,” said Abdo in a statement. “Champions League is the most prestigious club competition in the world, it’s an honor to be hosting one-of-a-kind studio coverage for Turner and Bleacher Report.”
