A day after Santos Laguna beat Toluca, 2-1, in the first leg of the final in Liga MX's Torneo Clausura, its American defender,
Jorge Villafana, was robbed of $20,000.
Villafana was
with his wife when they went to a currency exchange at the Galerias Laguna on the outskirts of Torreon, but they were unable to exchange 400,000 pesos because the exchange didn't have enough
dollars.
They went to a second exchange at the Plaza Cuatro Caminos, where they were robbed moments after exchanging the pesos for dollars. Local police believe the robbers, who weren't
immediately apprehended, had followed Villafana and his wife from the first exchange.
Villafana was on the bench for Santos in Thursday's first leg. His 24 appearances in 2017-18 are the
most in his three seasons.
The second leg will be played Sunday night in Toluca.
