Christen Press scoring goals again in Gothenburg

Christen Presshas already scored four goals in five games since returning to Sweden's Kopparbergs/Goteborg this season. She returned to Gothenburg, where she began her Swedish career in 2012, after not accepting the trade from the Chicago Red Stars to Houston Dash.

Kopparbergs/Goteborg is tied for fourth in the Damallsvenskan, which currently employs 14 Americans. The Swedish league was once considered one of the best women's leagues in Europe but top clubs have fallen behind clubs backed by big men's programs in England, France and Spain that have put more resources into women's soccer.

Press, whose career took off when she scored 42 goals in 47 games in two-plus seasons in the Damallsvenskan after WPS folded following the 2011 season. She returned to play in the NWSL with the Red Stars ahead of the 2015 Women's World Cup.

Press is one of only two players in the national team picture playing in Europe. Morgan Brian moved to French champion Lyon in January but has not played in its run to the UEFA Women's Champions League final, where Lyon will face Wolfsburg on Thursday.
