Youth: U.S. U-17 girls advance to semis in World Cup qualifying

The USA beat Bermuda, 10-1, to reach the semifinals of the 2018 Concacaf Women's U-17 Championship, which will determine the region's three qualifiers for the 2018 U-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay.

The tournament started in Nicaragua in April but was canceled because of deadly riots in demonstrations against changes in government pension plans. It restarted on Wednesday in Bradenton, Florida.

The USA beat Costa Rica, 4-0, before the postponement. It faces Canada on Friday and will win the group with a win or tie. Regardless its result against Canada, a 2-1 winner over Costa Rica, the USA will have a semifinal date.

The two semifinal winners and third-place winner will represent Concacaf in Uruguay, which will host the 16-team finals Nov. 13-Dec. 1. Mexico and Haiti have already qualified for for the semifinals from Group B.

Captain Mia Fishel opened the scoring for the USA in the sixth minute but Bermuda snatched a shock equalizer 11 minutes later when a long-range free kick by Leilanni Nesbeth slipped past U.S. goalkeeper Julia Dohle.

Midfielder Maya Doms and forward Sunshine Fontes each scored twice after Diana Ordoñez restored the U.S. lead in the 25th minute.

The USA outshot Bermuda 30-1.
