Big win over France earns U.S. U-20 women Tournoi Maurice Revello title

Sophia Smith, scorer in seven straight games, led the USA to the U-20 Tournoi Maurice Revello Sud Ladies Cup title in France. Smith also assisted on Erin Gilroy's in the 3-1 win over the host that followed victories over Germany (3-0) and Haiti (7-0), at the tournament two months ahead of the France-hosted U-20 Women's World Cup four which all four participants have qualified.

Both Gilroy and Penelope Hocking, who scored the USA's final goal against France in the 88th minute, came off the bench with the score tied, 1-1.

U.S. striker Brianna Pinto flew to Russia afterward as one of three youth players, along with Canada's Alphonso Davies and Mexico's Diego Lainez to help make the case for the United 2026 World Cup bid, which on Wednesday morning became reality.
