U.S. Abroad: Bobby Wood should fit in at Hannover 96

Bobby Wood will stay in the Bundesliga. Hamburg, relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in its history, has loaned him to Hannover 96 for the 2018-19 season.

Hannover head coach Andre Breitenreiter told kicker he had eyed Wood, who likes to operate in open spaces, to work up front.

"Bobby and I have been in touch for several weeks," Breitenreiter said. "I'd be very happy if the transfer came through."

The 25-year-old Wood will be in his third season in the Bundesliga.

"I had very good talks," he said, "and know what the club intends, what kind of football should be played and where I fit in with that. My gut feeling told me it is the right decision."

Wood, 25, scored five league goals in 2016-17 and just two in 24 appearances in 2017-18. He previously spent six seasons in the second division, enjoying a breakout season at Union Berlin (17 goals) in 2015-16.

"He went through a difficult period recently," said Hannover sporting director Horst Heldt, "but not long ago half the league was chasing him."
