What They're Saying: Barack Obama

“Just ask the French football team that just won the World Cup -- because not all those folks look like Gauls to me. But they are French, they are French."

-- Former President Barack Obama, speaking in Johannesburg on Tuesday to honor the 100th birthday of the late South African leader Nelson Mandela, on what can be accomplished if a society embraces diversity. The French champions included 17 players (out of 23) who are the sons of immigrants from Africa, the Caribbean and Phillipines. (CBS News)

In my opinion only, there is certinlt No Problem with Diversity-of-Races, regarding the Immigration Process, (etcetera), Obama!  .............  Just so that  these IMMIGRANTS are Legal and Valid citizens, (in the eyes of the Government)! ---- And I suspect that these 17 FRNCH Players-('immigrants'), who just played for the French Natonal Team in this 2018-World Cup were Legal and Valid citizens of the French Governmen, just as their Parents and Grandparents were!  .......  A big Difference between the many, numerous ILLEGAL Immigrants from Mexico and other places, who came to the U.S.A. illegally! ..........  And I suspect that NO other Country would alow that either, (especially, the Mexican Government) to allow People to secretly come into the Country UNDOCUMENTED and UNPROCESSED by their own individual Government!  -------  [Just a Thought, Mr. Obama]!

Agree with you Austin. President Obama, was never one, to let a little thing like laws get in the way of progress-socialism.

Obama deported more undocumented immigrants than any president (and earned the nickname "deporter in chief").  He also worked with the Mexican government to help them tighten their southern border (after the influx of unaccompanied minors in 2014), which is one good reason to have a healthy relationship with Mexico. While Obama does praise immigrants, he also enforced the law (though he did, by way of an executive order, not employ resources to deport the Dreamers).  The problem is that current law makes it difficult/impossible for some people to immigrate legally (10 year plus waiting lists for immigrants from Mexico without special skills).  Without immigrants, there would be no soccer culture in the US.  And the fact that we have immigrants from so many different places gives us the opportunity to develop a unique blend of soccer traits from many different cultures.  Soccer, more than any other sport, demonstrates the benefits of interacting with people from different cultures (and thrives on it, as specifically demonstrated by the world cup).
