MLS Moves: Montreal deal for Jimmy Briand falls through.

On Sunday, French club Guingamp announced that it had an agreement for veteran striker Jimmy Briand to move the MLS's Montreal Impact.

The Impact followed with a statement that Briand would be in Montreal this week and it was only a matter time before he joined the team.

Well, the Impact issued a statement on Thursday that the deal had fallen through:

"Briand did not want to sign the MLS contract according to the terms negotiated and accepted by himself and his agent. Important additional requests by the Briand side at the last minute made the signing fall through."

L'Equipe reported in its Friday edition that Briand, who had played for Impact coach Remi Garde at Lyon, wanted housing for his family, a car and the education of his two children paid for by the Impact, but Montreal owner Joey Saputo did not agree to the request valued at 240,000 euros ($280,000).

L'Equipe added that Guingamp and Briand, who scored 30 goals in three seasons, still have a deal for the 32-year-old forward to leave the club for 300,000 euros ($350,000). One possibility was a move to Turkey, but L'Equipe suggested Briand was still open to a move to MLS, just not Montreal.
