U.S. Abroad: Sebastian Soto debuts for Hannover 96's U-19s

Real Salt Lake's Sebastian Soto, who led the 2017-2018 Development Academy with 42 goals in 27 games for Real Salt Lake's U-18/19 team, played for German club Hannover 96 in its 3-1 loss to Werder Bremen in their 2018-19 U-19 Bundeliga openr.

Soto, who had committed to Cal, was the also top scorer in 2016-17 when he scored 22 goals for RSL AZ's U-15/16 team. He turned 18 in July, allowing him to sign with a foreign club. He hails from Carlsbad, California, and previously played for San Diego Surf.

Soto played for the U.S. under-19 national team when it took third place at the 2018 Slovakia Cup.





Also starting for Hannover 96 against Bremen was former U.S. U-17 Christopher Gloster, who played for the New York Red Bulls. One of their teammates on the U-19s is Luca Beckenbauer, Franz Beckenabuer's grandson.

The number of Americans who are playing at or trained with Bundesliga youth teams continues to grow.

Ulysses Llanez, Christian Cappis, Taylor Booth and Cameron Duke were at Bayern Munich, while Alex Mendez was at Freiburg) while Alex Mendez was at Freiburg. All but Cappis are ineligible to sign with German clubs during the current transfer window.
