Soccer fans in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and elsewhere on the Indian subcontinent will have a new way of watching La Liga -- via Facebook.
The social network giant signed an exclusive
three-year deal to show Spanish league games, beginning on Friday, in India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, The Maldives, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The streams will be advertising-free.
Facebook has 348 million users in the region, 270 million of them in India.
“This is one deal,” Peter Hutton, Facebook’s director of global live sports, told Reuters
. “It’s not something that
is a big threat to broadcast world.”
Facebook recently signed a deal in Britain to take effect next season to air 20 English Premier League games on its Prime subscription service.
