Soehn spent four years as an assistant coach under Heaps at the New England Revolution and was interim head coach in 2017 after
Heaps left the Revs.
“Tommy has won championships as both a player and coach and has proven his ability to develop players while building championship-caliber teams," said Heaps in
a statement. "Just as important, Tommy’s character is of the highest quality, and that will be reflected in the players we have on the field in 2019 and beyond.”
Soehn was an
assistant at D.C. United when it won MLS Cup 2004 and its head coach when it won the Supporters' Shield (2007) and U.S. Open Cup (2008).
As a player, Soehn was part of championship teams
with the Dallas Burn (1997 Open Cup) and Chicago Fire (MLS Cup 1998, U.S. Open Cup 1998 and 2000).
