Two days after losing to Wake Forest, 2-1, in overtime, top-ranked Indiana recovered to beat No. 2 North Carolina, 1-0, on
A.J. Palazzolo's header in the 88th minute at WakeMed Park.
"I thought we were a little out of sorts with our possession and rhythm," said Indiana head coach
Todd Yeagley, "and I thought the guys really got it collected at halftime. Made
some good adjustments and were sharper. I was pleased in the second half how we came out and performed. Still not, certainly, where we can be, so to get a road win against a top team is going to go a
long way for us this season.”
North Carolina had a 11-3 edge in shots but only managed to test IU keepers
Trey Muse and
Sean Caulfield, who split time in goal, with
three shots on goal. The game was a rematch of their 2017 NCAA semifinal match the Hoosiers also won by the same score.
