USA-Mexico: Jonathan Gonzalez gets call-up from Tuca Ferretti

Interim Mexico coach Tuca Ferretti called up 19-year-old Californian Jonathan Gonzalez for El Tri's September matches against the USA and Uruguay.

Gonzalez, who is in his second season in Liga MX with Monterrey, played in one Mexico friendly in February after making a switch of affliliation. The former U.S. U-20 midfielder is one of four teenagers called up along with Gerardo Arteaga, Roberto Alvarado and Diego Lainez.

Two players called up have MLS ties: LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos and former Real Salt Lake defender Carlos Salcedo. Besides dos Santos and Salcedo, other holdovers from the 2018 World Cup include Hirving “Chucky” Lozano and Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa, two of five European-based players in the team
