3. TRANSACTIONS: Houston releases Cerritos

Cerritos was scoreless in 15 games with Houston in 2006 after enjoying a comeback season with San Jose last season. He scored eight goals and nine assists and started 28 games in the Earthquakes' final season in San Jose.
The 31-year-old Cerritos came to MLS in 1997, its second season, and scored 10 or more goals in four of his first five seasons with San Jose, leading the club in scoring each of those times. He was selected to MLS's Best XI in 1997 when he scored 12 goals. His best season came in 1999 when he scored 15 goals. He currently ranks ninth on MLS's all-time scoring list with 70 goals.
Cerritos spent parts of two seasons each with Dallas (2002-03) and D.C. United (2003-04) and returned to El Salvador to play for Alianza in 2004 after being dropped by D.C. United. Cerritos was never able to duplicate his success in MLS at the international level with El Salvador, which hasn't qualified for the World Cup finals since 1982.
