What They're Saying: Jake Edwards

"What I'm focused on over the next few years is turning USL League One into a strong, competitive, professional league that is going to have infrastructure, stadiums, ownership and quality of players that lends itself to looking at [pro/rel] down the road. I don't think that's something you can launch right away."

-- USL president Jake Edwards on the launch of the new USL League One (former Division III) in 2019, between the USL Championship (flagship league) and USL League Two (former PDL). (ESPN FC)

Jake, Jake, Jake. "lends itslef to looking at" maybe possibly almost kinda later pro/rel? Dude, you are MLS's biotch. You have zero say in the matter. This is all spin, trying to buy you some time to build credibility before everyone realizes your players are captive. They have no path to MLS other than whatever path MLS deems desireable for themselves. The US will need our own version of the Bosman Ruling so that players over 22 can find opportunity.
