Watch (TBT): When Matias Almeyda faced Claudio Reyna at 1996 Olympics

New San Jose coach Matias Almeyda battled against NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna  when Argentina faced the USA at the 1996 Olympics. Argentina beat the USA, 3-1, but then 23-year-old Reyna, who opened the scoring in the 1st minute, won many midfield battles against the 22-year-old Almeyda.

In addition to the 1996 Olympics, Almeyda played at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. Although a defensive midfielder, he scored several goals in his career, which started with River Plate and included stints Sevilla, Lazio, Parma and Inter.
