1. New York City FC has re-signed Sean Johnson, Alexander Callens, Alexander Ring to new long-term contracts.
The players form the
spine of the NYCFC lineup and are in the prime of their careers: Johnson, 29, in goal, Callens, 26, at center back, and Ring, 27, in midfield.
2. The French men's pro league (LFP) is giving France's women's first division teams
the 2018 World Cup FIFA bonus money it received from the French federation (FFF). The 12
teams will each receive about 100,000 euros ($120,000). Most clubs have budgets of less than 1 million euros, so the World Cup bonus money is not insignificant. The FFF received almost $38 million for
winning the World Cup. The players' share: 30 percent. 3. The University of New Mexico's decision to not hold a formal spring
practice for the men's soccer program
has not sat well with players who were told that as part of the decision to drop men's soccer after the 2018 season they would still have spring practice in
2019, the Albuquerque Journal reported
. The decision to discontinue men’s soccer, skiing and beach
volleyball is still being contested and even has come as an issue in the New Mexico governor's race.
