League One's Lansing is latest USL team with minor league baseball connection

The Lansing Ignite has joined the USL League One as the ninth entrant in the new third division league for its 2019 launch.

Like others in the USL orbit, Lansing has a minor league baseball connection.

It will play at the Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Class-A Lansing Lugnuts. And the Ignite is owned by Tom Dickson, a baseball entrepreneur whose first minor-league team was the Lugnuts, launched in 1996.

Dickson is the chairman of Minor League Baseball Enterprises and is on the board of directors for Minor League Baseball. He is also the CEO of Professional Sports Catering, which operates at over 30 ballparks around the country.
