Portugal became the first team to qualify for the final four of the new UEFA Nations League when it tied Italy, 0-0, at Milan's San Siro Stadium and clinched the group with a game to spare.
The Portuguese, who have played without Cristiano Ronaldo
since the World Cup, beat Italy, 1-0, at home and Poland, 3-2, away. The three teams in Group 3 were the only teams to apply to host
the semifinals and final June 5-9.
The Netherlands will beat out France for the Group 1 title with a win or tie against Germany on Monday. Belgium leads Switzerland going into the final
Group 2 game on Sunday. Spain leads Group 4 but needs an England-Croatia tie on Sunday to win the group. Otherwise, the England-Croatia winner will win the group.
Germany, Poland and
Iceland -- loser of all four games -- have already been relegated from League 1. Ukraine, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Denmark have clinched promotion from League 2.
