NJCAA Division I Men: Pima wins first title on third trip to final

Top-seeded Pima won its first NJCAA division I title with a 2-1 win over Barton in the final played in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Aztecs came back from a goal down with 10 men to win. They were trailing on Tevin Rochester's penalty kick for Barton when Javier Vega was red carded in the 66th minute.

But Pima got a goal from Isaias German to equalize in the 79th minute, and Japanese midfielder Hugo Kametani won the game in overtime with a goal in the 107th minute. It was Kametani's second overtime game-winners of the tournament. He also scored Wednesday against Northeast Texas in a 3-2 win.

It was Pima's third trip to the final. The Aztecs lost to Mercer County in 1988 and State Fair in 1999. State Fair's title was later vacated for the use of ineligible players.

The Aztecs finished 26-2 -- their best record ever -- and are 104-18-7 in the last five years under Coach David Cosgrove.
