U.S. Open Cup: Christos FC falls in third round of qualifying

Virginia United plays in the Woodbridge Soccer League, which is affiliated with the Asociacion Nacional Fútbol en USA.
Three 2018 qualifiers still alive. World Class Premier Elite FC is the lone team from the Maryland Major Soccer League still alive after winning at the Rochester Lancers 2, 3-1. Losses by Christos FC and Rochester Lancers 2 (former River Dogz) left only three local qualifiers from the 2018 Open Cup still alive for the 2019 edition. The Santa Ana Winds won on Saturday, while FC Denver and NTX Rayados have not yet played.
Soldiers reign in Florida. The Florida Soccer Soldiers also won on the road, beating Hurricane FC, 6-0. The Soldiers got two goals and two assists from Valentin Sabella and two goals from Will Stamitas, son of former Hermann Trophy winner Jim Stamitas.
Curfew suspends UPSL showdown. The match between Cal FC and California United FC II -- a battle of UPSL powerhouses -- was suspended late in regulation with the score tied 2-2 because the lights at the Cal Lutheran University stadium had to be turned off by local ordinance.
Two games scheduled for Saturday weren't played. The Oakland Stompers' game against Academica SC from Turlock was postponed because of the dangerous air quality in Oakland from the smoke from the Camp Fire. The match between FC Denver and Gam United FC was postponed because of freezing conditions.
The Open Cup Committee has not announced whether a fourth round of qualifying will take place. The number of berths into the first round of the 2019 U.S. Open Cup has not yet been determined. If a fourth qualifying round is needed, it will be played either on March 9-10 or April 6-7.
