What's in the news ...

1. Video Review will be used on Tuesday when the USA and Italy meet in a men's friendly in Genk, Belgium. UEFA, which will rolling out the VAR system in various competitions over the next few years, will test the system at the Luminus Arena. The UEFA executive committee has approved VAR for the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League, as of the playoff stage, and the Euro 2020 finals, among other competitions.

2. The Philadelphia Union have 17 players under contract for the 2019 season after exercising the contract options on seven players to go along with 10 players who have contracts already guaranteed for next season. The Union picked up options of defenders Jack Elliott, Olivier Mbaizo, and Keegan Rosenberry, midfielders Ilsinho, Derrick Jones and Fafa Picault and forward Cory Burke. All but one of the players with guaranteed contracts are on DP or TAM deals or are Homegrown players from the Union's burgeoning dvelopment program. Out of contract is Borek Dockal, the 2018 MLS assists leader, following the expiration of his loan from Chinese club Henan Jianye.

3. French cable network Canal+ drew a record average of 487,000 viewers for the first women's league game it has broadcast in prime time, Paris St. Germain-Lyon (1-1). Canal+, which carries all 132 women's league games on its various channels, has the cable rights to broadcast the 2019 Women's World Cup, which will be played in France. Network TF1 has rights to air 25 Women's World Cup games.
