Stanford transfer Kyra Carusa returns to College Cup with Georgetown

Kyra Carusa won a NCAA Division I women's championship with Stanford in 2017 and is now two games away from winning a title with Georgetown.

Carusa, who scored Stanford's first goal in its 3-2 win over UCLA in the 2017 Women's College Cup final, led the unbeaten Hoyas (21-0-3) to a 3-0 win over Big 12 champion Baylor with one goal and two assists in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Georgetown dominated the first half with a 15-0 edge in shots but Kelly Ann Livingstone's goal in the 8th minute was the only goal the Hoyas scored.

Carusa, who started 68 games in three seasons for Stanford before joining the Hoyas as a graduate transfer, made it 2-0 in the 50th minute and set up Paula Germino-Watnick for the third goal in the 76th minute.

"This was an exceptional performance by the girls today," said Georgetown coach Dave Nolan. "The results and the performance were very good. Sometimes you only get one or the other, and I thought we got both today."

Arielle Schechtman, who played one year for UCLA before moving to Georgetown,  picked up her 15th shutout of the season to give her 47 in three seasons.

College Cup. The Hoyas are returning to the Women's College Cup, where they will face North Carolina in the semifinals, for the second time in three years. They lost to USC, 1-0, in the 2016 semifinals.
