Youth: U.S. U-17 boys tie Portugal in Nike Friendlies opener

D.C. United academy striker Griffin Yow's 36th minute strike earned the USA a 1-1 tie with Portugal at the Nike International Friendlies in Lakewood, Florida.

Yow intercepted a poor back pass and easily beat the Portuguese keeper in the USA's opener on Wednesday.

Tiago Tomas scored Portugal's equalizer in the 81st minute.

UP NEXT. On Friday, the USA faces Turkey, which opened with a 1-0 loss to Brazil. The game will be streamed live at 6:30 p.m. at, U.S. Soccer's Facebook and YouTube.

    I saw the game but I am always accused of being negative so I ain't saying nothing.

    We have a group of very good conditioned athletes but creativity is limited and just because you have possession doesnt mean you control the game.  You have to create opportunities and then put the ball in the net.  First you have to get within range of the net.  Need someone who can take charge in the middle to move  the ball up the field.

    Bob, I regret you couldn't find it.  Your feedback is always good and I was looking forward to your critique.  I had the opportunity to view the games and personally I was dissappointed in the play not only with us but the entire group of teams that were there.  I can't believe that the best players were sent to this.  Maybe it is because it is not a FIFA sanctioned event and many kids were with clubs over the pond that would not release them for this activity.
